The universe is extremely big; no one knows exactly how big it is, nor do they know exactly how the Universe was created. For years, humans have tried figuring out where everything came from; they’ve come up with all kinds of ideas, to ancient stories to scientific stories.

A long time ago, before science existed, people came up with myths and stories about how the universe was formed. For example, the Egyptians believed that the universe came from dark, endless water, nun, and that the sun god, Atum, rose from it to create the world. The Greeks had another story; they believed the universe started with Chaos, a big empty nothingness, and from it came Gaia (Earth), and Uranus (Sky). These myths weren’t specific, but they showed beliefs and faith.

In Hindu cosmology, they believe, the universe was created by Brahma, the creator of the world and all of existence. The Gods Brama, Vishnu, and Shiva hold great roles in the cosmic cycle. Brama is the creator, the creator of us and the cycle of creation. Vishnu is the preserver; he sustains and maintains the created universe, and Shiva is known as the destroyer. He guides the ending of each cycle so a new one can begin.

13.7 billion years ago, the universe began as a small, hot, and dense point, which rapidly expanded and continues to stretch. This rapid growth, called cosmic inflation, happened in a fraction of a second and set the stage for everything that exists today. As the universe cooled, particles formed atoms, which later became stars and galaxies. Evidence like the cosmic microwave background, the faint “afterglow” of the early universe, supports this theory and helps scientists understand how the universe has changed over time.

The universe is full of mysteries, and people have spent thousands of years trying to understand how it all began. From ancient myths to Hindu cosmology to modern scientific theories like the Big Bang, each theory shows how humans have tried to make sense of something so huge and complex. Even today, scientists are still discovering new clues about our universe, which means the story of how everything started is still unfolding.
